mediquip Medizintechnik was founded in 1991 as a marketing and service company in health care. Focus was placed on vital signs monitoring and sensor technology for the special requirements in neonatology and paediatrics. Concurrently mediquip introduced the first MRI-compatible pulse oxymeter to the German health-care market. Since then, Nonin Medical Inc. has continually modified and adapted their pulse oxymeter to meet the needs of the demanding MRI environment. For example, optic and acoustic features have been improved. Large, bright, numeric LED displays are easily seen from a greater distance. The user- adjustable pulse tone now varies pitch with changes in Sp02 Fiber optic sensors are state of the art technology. They eliminate the risk of RF burns, allow for safer patient monitoring and reduce the incidence of image interference. mediquip has become well established and is market leader in Germany for patient care & comfort technology in MRI. Today we market innovative package solutions for diagnosis and therapy, specially designed for the radiology practitioner and radiology departments in hospitals (PCP). Future objectives include the addition of further vital signs parameters and advanced products to enhance patient comfort during MRI. Magnetic Resonance Imaging is becoming the preferred diagnostic tool. Paediatricians especially, advocate this method. It is safe, there is little patient strain and the MR images are of high diagnostic value. Patient access in the small opening of the magnet bore is difficult or sometimes impossible. Paediatricians, whose patients are usually sedated, are calling for additional vital signs monitoring (apart from pulse oxymetry), to ensure that the respiratory and cardiovascular status of their patient is not compromised during the procedure.
